Atticus & the Hippo

May 10, 2011No Comments »

Atticus is really a character. He has always had a deep gruff voice, and his mannerisms and choice of words is truly historical. This is a little gem that I caught on tape at the San Diego Zoo this weekend.

“Blue”

Meet “Blue”. He is the newest member of our family. (After stating that, I realize I neglected to blog about my newest son Jude who was born two months ago! Doh!) Sorry Jude. More on Jude coming soon! But back to Blue. Blue is a 1959 VW Double Cab. I bought him on the internet and had shipped to Redondo Beach from Fort Collins Colorado. This truck is sweet. He can seat all six of us. He is a little rusty around the edges, but no matter. I am hoping to completely restore him. His motor does not run, his brakes are non existant and he needs some serious love. I can’t wait!

Yesteryear’s Halloween Costumes

Oct 25, 20101 Comment »

This year Brynn and I made a last minute decision to put together a half-assed costume for the Hawkin’s annual Halloween costume party. I scored some excellent Mario and Luigi hats…and a mustache for Brynn. Eve and Atticus wore some awesome Star Wars costumes we had in the garage…and Asher borrowed a Yoda costume from the Osbornes. Brynn and I actually won a prize for best couple’s costume…and Asher won best kid’s costume. We had a blast. It was the perfect ending to an already great long 4 day weekend.

I love Halloween!

Slowly overtaking Christmas and Thanksgiving, Halloween has become my favorite holiday. I like to work on the family’s costumes, buy orange and black M&M’s and walk aimlessly around the Halloween aisles at target. Brynn and I usually kick off the ward doorbell-ditch-treat-drop-off the first weekend in October. Last night we went a little overboard. We stayed up till 1:30 in the morning piping and filling sugar cooking. Although the task became rather boring…it was nice sitting together in a quite home and chatting. This year’s sugar cookies yielded some gems. If you are a fan the Miyazaki film: Kiki’s Delivery Service, then you should enjoy this little guy.

After knocking out 2 of these guys, I went for something a little more ambitious. Eve and Asher are currently enjoying the antics of Calvin and Hobbes. I dug up my old books from the garage early this summer.

Next year….Wookie Cookies.

Lego my Lego

Jun 2, 20101 Comment »

It’s time for me to finally put away a lifelong obsession. I have made the difficult decision to sell my entire Lego collection. Over 90 Lego sets. I have collected Lego since I was 7 years old. They will be appearing on ebay this weekend. Over the course of the last month, I have built, photographed, cataloged and destroyed each lego set. All missing pieces have been accounted for. Our family room is filled with boxes and bags of Lego. Shipping all of these sets to the appropriate buyers is going to be a logistical nightmare. I am strangely calm through all this change and chaos. It feels kind of good to declutter my life and my garage. Only one question remains: What do people get me for Christmas now?
